Het Kazachse wielerteam Astana gooit in de komende Ronde van Frankrijk al zijn troefkaarten op tafel. De ploeg van adviseur Walter Godefroot wil koste wat kost de gele trui veroveren in Parijs.

Astana heeft met Alexandre Vinokourov en Andreas Klöden de twee uitgesproken topfavorieten in huis. De Kazachse klimgeit Andrey Kashechkin, de Italiaanse sneltrein Paolo Savoldelli en de Duitse buffel Matthias Kessler krijgen een beschermde status van de ploeg. Eddy Mazzoleni ruilt zijn kopmanschap van de voorbije Giro maar wat graag in voor de rol van 'gregario'. De andere drie plaatsen worden na de Ronde van Zwitserland bekendgemaakt. (hln)

In the first event of the 2012 Series, Jacobs, placed second on two stages  and won the final stage of the event that raced through some of

Tasmania's most picturesque regions liquigas cycling bib shorts. Fellow Victorian Miranda

Griffiths (Holden Cycling) placed second, with Total Rush's Amy Bradley completing a trifecta for Victoria.

"It is pretty amazing to win any tour, but especially liquigas cycling bib shorts a

national road series tour," said Jacobs, 30, who was sixth in the 2011 Mersey Valley Tour. "If you said to me two days ago I was going to be in

this position, I would have laughed at you.
"It is very unexpected, but it was just a result of consistency across the three stages," Jacobs added.

Canberra's Rebecca Wiasak (Suzuki / Trek) took the honours in Saturday's opening stage, a 15km time trial around Forth. Jacobs finished thirty

seconds behind Wiasak in second place greenedge cycling jersey, with Griffiths a

further forty seconds back in 11th place.

In Saturday's 93.4km road race from Forth to Moina, Griffiths took a solid one minute stage win over Jacobs.

Heading into the Sunday's third and final stage, a 117km road race around Sheffield, Jacobs lead fellow Griffiths by just seven seconds in the

overall classification.

A break-away inside the final kilometres led by 2012 bmc cycling jersey  Jacobs,

Griffiths and Bradley ensured a thrilling climax to the Tour, with Jacobs using knowledge gained in her 2010 stage win to snare the stage and

overall Tour win.
